EMBRACING LIGHT: ANNE LARSEN & JOHN SEXTON
JUNE 7 though JULY 27, 2025

OPENING RECEPTION and LECTURE, SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 2025
LECTURE: 3:00–4:30 PM
RECEPTION: 4:30–6:00 PM

We are thrilled to be sharing a two-person exhibition, Embracing Light, at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, California.

If you'll be in the area, you're warmly invited to a lecture and opening reception on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Center for Photographic Art. Both events are free and open to the public. The lecture begins at 3:00 PM—we recommend arriving early to ensure a good seat. The reception will follow the presentation.

The exhibition will be on view through July 27, 2025. (Please note: this end date is one week earlier than originally announced. The CPA adjusted their schedule due to a conflict with the next exhibition.)

We will be including work from our long-term project photographing Venice, Italy, as well as other new images, along with a few oldies but goodies from the past.

We are both working feverishly in the darkroom making the last few prints for the exhibition. We also must complete the matting, as well as framing, of the approximately fifty prints that will be on display. As is our usual approach to such things, we are doing it all ourselves!

We both understand that photography is, by nature, a solitary pursuit. Even when we are photographing side by side, the moment each of us disappears beneath the focusing cloth to study the image on the ground glass, the act of making a photograph becomes quiet and meditative. The same holds true in our darkroom. Though we share the same space, we each work alone, embracing the contemplative sanctuary that darkness provides.

We recognize that an exhibition like this would not be possible without the support of many individuals. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the following, whose generosity, encouragement, and efforts helped bring this exhibition to life:

First and foremost, Anne Jastrab—along with her dedicated staff and the legion of volunteers at the Center for Photographic Art—an essential hub for creative photography on the Monterey Peninsula. We are also deeply grateful to the Wildcat Cove Foundation for their most generous support of our exhibition.

In addition, we would like to acknowledge the ongoing support of the following individuals and organizations, whose belief in our work over the years has meant so much to us: Rob Pike and Renée French, Jim and Stacy Geitgey, Alan and Christie Russell, Marco Bianchi and Luisella Artabano, Patrick DelliBovi and Eric Joseph of Freestyle Photographic Supplies, Ilford Photo, "Dano" Steinhardt of Epson America, Cliff Rusch, and, last but certainly not least, Tim Ryugo.

We are thrilled and honored that our exhibition will be on display during The Center for Photographic Arts' PhotoWalk Carmel 2025 event, as well as the 88th season of the Carmel Bach Festival—widely regarded as America's most important Bach Festival. The Festival's primary venue is the Sunset Center, which also houses the Center for Photographic Art.

Ansel and Virginia Adams were both passionate supporters of the Carmel Bach Festival. Virginia, a remarkably gifted vocalist, was celebrated for her talent. In 1984, her family and friends established the Virginia Best Adams Masterclass Endowment Fund. Since its founding, the endowment has supported the training and mentoring of more than 100 emerging professional singers from around the world.

PhotoWalk Carmel 2025

PhotoWalk Carmel 2025 offers a unique opportunity to explore eight outstanding photography galleries in Carmel, including the host venue, the Center for Photographic Art. This year's event will take place on Saturday, July 19, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

We'll both be at the CPA gallery during the PhotoWalk Carmel event to meet visitors and talk about our work. We'll also be present for the reception and raffle at the gallery from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.—a perfect time to enjoy refreshments and connect with others who share a love for the magical medium of photography.

In addition, we will be at the CPA Gallery for a meet-and-greet on the final day of our exhibition—Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. We'd love to chat about the photographs on display and connect with you in person. We hope to see you at some point during the exhibition!

Now...back to the darkroom!!!
